Local celebration of Nurses Day

Local celebration of Nurses Day

22nd May 2009
Nurses Day was a resounding success with guests from across west Essex crowding into the lecture theatre at St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping, to celebrate the occasion.

The event on 15 May, fully lived up to its billing as an opportunity to “come together, network with each other, connect and engage”.

The celebration took dignity as its theme and had the title “dignity in care closer to home”.

Gertrude Madovi, who was part of the local organising committee, said she was delighted by how well the event had gone.

Invited guests included John Knapman, chairman of Epping Forest District Council, and Epping mayor Janet Hedges.

Mike Kavanagh, Royal College of Nursing (RCN) regional officer for Essex, was among the speakers along with
NHS West Essex chief executive Aidan Thomas who said the organisation was very proud of the high quality work done by its nurses.

“ You as nurses, as qualified and caring professionals, are the people who spearhead care and provide such a great service,” he said.

Organised by local nurses in conjunction with the RCN and with the support of NHS West Essex, the drop-in event also featured a special cake-cutting ceremony as well as various displays.
